WELCOME TO THE BSC CURRICULUM
The Pitt Meadows Soccer Club has become one of the many soccer organizations in North America to acquire the web-based Byte Size Coaching program developed by Tony Waiters, former Canadian World Cup Team coach and head coach of the original Vancouver Whitecaps, along with other contributors.
The Byte Size Coaching program is an on-line system of plans that have been developed and designed to assist coaches at all age levels of play, from U-4 to U-18. It is presented in a game-based format so as to enthuse and make it fun for the players and less difficult for the coach to follow.
If you are one of our relatively inexperienced coaches, follow the plans to the letter. Print out the respective Activities and Session Plans and you are ready to go.
If you are an experienced coach, or, as you become more confident, don't be afraid to add your own personal touch to the sessions. Be creative, but still use the content of the Byte Size Coaching curriculum as a foundation.
Feel free to explore and experiment with plans from the older or younger age groups. Even professional teams use some of the practices found in the U-7 plans because they are simple and provide a change of pace from the more complicated activities. When running your practice session, attempt to avoid activities that keep players waiting in lines. For new or beginning coaches, recruit an assistant or two to help you so that the players are always active in small groups. This will help maintain the interest of the players and will keep the youngsters constantly moving and motivated. Remember, the time we have as coaches in working with our players is limited, so always try and get the most out of each practice session and maximize the benefit for the players.
By using the plans in this program, they will provide all coaches with a good base of ideas to work from. However, we hope the Byte Size Coaching Program goes even farther than that and facilitates the development of your own ideas and training methods.
Tony and his colleagues welcome feedback and input from all user groups. If you have some ideas of your own that you would like to see incorporated into the curriculum, please contact me and I will be pleased to forward them through the proper channels.
This program helps demonstrate our club's commitment to supporting and educating our coaches by providing the resources that will assist in the development of you and your players, and will create a positive and rewarding experience for everyone.
